Samantha is studying Virginian History and Geography at school. Just the other day she took a field trip to the Jamestown Settlement which is about 45 minutes from here. Next year, we will celebrate the 400th anniversary of the establishment of the colony. For those of you with smaller kids, you just have to explain that Jamestown is where Captain John Smith landed in the Disney movie “Pocohantas”.
About a month ago, I had the pleasure of taking Samantha to one of her Gymnastics competitions in Roanoke, Virginia. Our friends Mike and Jen Daniels watched Timothy and Nicole for me as Steph was out to sea. On the way to Roanoke, when she wasn’t engrossed in her book, Sam got to see all the areas she was studying about Virginia in her school. We went from the Tidewater region, past the falls and into the Piedmont region, and then got to see the Blue Ridge/skyline and Shenandoah Valley. I think we would like to spend a lot more time exploring Virginia once Stephanie is off her sea tour.
