Chantilly Flower Power 2008

Samantha did well in her most recent meet which was held locally. Fortunately, Stephanie had just arrived in town and was able to watch her first meet in a long time. Samantha took first in the All-Around competition for her age group and level by about 1/100th of a point!
Samantha got to see a lot of her friends from her old gym at Excalibur Gymnastics and our neighbor who is now on Ocean Tumblers from Virginia Beach.

Sam is now preparing for the Virginia State Competition which will be held at Christopher Newport University in Hampton, Virginia on Saturday, May 3rd at 12:15 p.m. She competed there earlier in the year. During the Flower Power meet, Sam had fixed her hair in an unusual way and many are wondering if she should repeat it for States as good luck. Take a look at the left.

As you can see at the right, Sam’s Beam Routine has been her weakness. She has been practicing extra hard with the coaches this year to improve her scores and it has now become her strength. Her uneven bars routine has also needed improvement and she has steadily increased her skills also. But since she started out very low at the beginning of the year, her ability to move to the same level of skills last year is much more difficult.

Overall, level 6 for Samantha has been very hard to do well. We have heard from many other parents and coaches that this is expected. In fact, many of her peers from her old gym had skipped this level and moved directly to level 7 from where they were. Hopefully, Samantha will be able to move up one level next year.
