Autographing her bookSamantha is Published!

Sam has been working this year on reading the Nate the Great series of books in her reading class. With the help of her classmate Charlie Altman and their teacher Miss Lena Fishman, they wrote their own book, "Nate the Great and the Missing Pancake".

Writing the book involved plot development (Nate is already a fully developed character), draft, typing and artwork. They even had a real journalist edit the book for them! When they finished the book, they had a book signing party at school where they read the book to their class and then autographed them for their classmates!

Sam continues to do well at in the first grade at school. The school staff decided that she should spend her reading with the 2nd Grade in addition to her special reading class.

Samantha is also learning the Touch Math method of adding numbers. Interesting but confusing to her parents!

Sam brings home plenty of Art and we can send you the originals if you are interested in seeing her works! Just let us know!

In addition to learning rhythm in Music, Sam has learned about some famous composers such as Bartok and Copeland.

What I did last Summer.

show off!Besides our vacation to Europe (Vacation Page) and some mini-trips in Israel, Sam only had six weeks to herself as Nicole continued in the Gan. Besides swimming every day, Dad relented and let Sam take Horseback riding lessons.

The equistrian sport is not inexpensive, costing much more than golf! Sam did great on Jessica, a small pony for her size, and even learned the cleaning and feeding aspect of the sport.

Nice hat!

School ThanksgivingAlthough Sam's school is an International School, it is also an "American" International school. They celebrate all Israeli holidays as well as the American ones. It is interesting to see kids from other cultures who know about and celebrate the American Holidays.

Sam's school is also very active in extra-curricular activities. She is currently taking an art class after school once a week. We are still deciding which activity to take next semester. Maybe Karate?

This year Samantha has taken up Ballet in place of Gymnastics. She is only one of two English speakers in the class so this has been an interesting experience for her. She has been learning the traditional positions along with Character Dance. Her class has been meeting twice a week since the beginning of the academic year. The parents are not allowed to watch them practice yet, the first one will be at the end of December. If the situation in Israel improves, Examiners from the London Royal Ballet will travel here to test her class' accomplishments.

Sam's graduation from KindergartenOk, we are a little late talking about Sam's graduation from Kindergarten last year but here is the picture proving she has the KB degree! Her teacher is glad she graduated!

Kindergarten end of year partyHer class also had an end of year pool party at one of her classmates house. They hired a water slide and had tons of food. Here are some pictures of Sam's Kindergarten Graduation and End of Year Party for Summer 2002.
